James 5:13-18

The Prayer of Faith

¹³Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him ^(A)sing praise. ¹⁴Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, ^(B)anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. ¹⁵And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And ^(C)if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. ¹⁶Therefore, ^(D)confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, ^(E)that you may be healed. ^(F)The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.^[a] ¹⁷Elijah was a man ^(G)with a nature like ours, and ^(H)he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for ^(I)three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. ¹⁸^(J)Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

Ask, and It Will Be Given

⁷^(A)“Ask, ^(B)and it will be given to you; ^(C)seek, and you will find; ^(D)knock, and it will be opened to you. ⁸For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. ⁹Or which one of you, if his son asks him for ^(E)bread, will give him ^(F)a stone? ¹⁰Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? ¹¹If you then, ^(G)who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will ^(H)your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
